Effects of Fire on PVC
Grass fires are fast and, for the most part, do not burn as hot as wood fires. Research shows (see below) that average surface temperatures of grass fires range between 215° F and 730° F.
The flash point for PVC is 735° F.
Once the flame is taken away from PVC, it will immediately self-extinguish. Depending on the duration of the contact, the result is a charred surface.

Wright and Baily (1982:9-11) discussed maximum temperatures in various grass fires and speculated that the highest temperatures are associated with “...local accumulations of loosely arranged litter and intense winds...” The maximum surface temperature was 682° C (1259° F).
Average surface temperatures for grass-fires was between 102° C and 388 C (215° F and 730° F).
